🤳 Quick and easy QR code scanning on iPhone

Hey Reader,! 👋

For this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to easily scan a QR code with your iPhone camera. This method saves you from downloading third-party QR code scanning apps.

😖 The issue

QR codes are common on product packaging, tickets, and menus. Scanning QR codes on your iPhone allows you to access information on the web quickly.

No need for any extra steps.

Sometimes we assume that QR codes have become outdated or irrelevant. But, they remain a convenient way to share digital information.

👇 Give it a try

  1. Open the Camera app from the Home Screen, Control Center, or Lock Screen.
  2. Hold your iPhone so that the QR code appears in the viewfinder in the Camera app. Your iPhone will recognize the QR code and display a notification.
  3. Tap the notification to open the link associated with the QR code.

Here's a short video (1:05) showing how it works...

😩 Troubleshooting

If your iPhone Camera app isn't scanning the QR code, here are a few troubleshooting tips to try and resolve it.

  • The QR code scanner option might be off in your Camera app. To turn it on, open the Settings app, tap on the Camera category, and then tap the button to turn on Scan QR Codes.
  • When scanning a QR code, position your iPhone’s camera parallel to the code. Hold it steady and ensure that the entire code is within the frame. Make sure the code is well lit.
  • When you open the Camera app and point it at a QR code, tap on the screen to focus. This ensures that the camera sharpens its focus on the code, making it easier to scan.

✨ One more thing

Now you know how to use your iPhone's Camera app to scan QR codes. Say goodbye to those old QR scanner apps you got from the App Store!

Let me know the next time you scan a QR code with the Camera app.

Until next time, see ya! 👋
